Mommy's News (Issue 34)

Well, what a day! It started out that we were possibly going to get a reservoir in Jonah; but after the ultra-sound today, the doctors have observed that Jonah's blood clots in his ventricles are starting to heal (the blood clots are beginning to absorb back into the body and the head problem is fixing itself). The surgeons are pleased with how Jonah is healing himself and don't want to bother the healing process unless they have to. By observing and monitoring Jonahs progress; instead of putting in the reservoir, they assure a decrease in the chance of infection. So, as of now they are not going to do the surgery to put in the reservoir. We are unsure of what this means for back transportation. Tanya and I are learning patience as things done on the Lord's time. It is hard having Jonah in Primary Childrens, so far away from home, yet at the same time we know that it is best for him to be there for a touch longer, in case something with his head does happen. We count...

Sorry for not including what a reservoir is. A reservoir is a drainage system used to drain the ventricles on the brain. A small tube is inserted into one of the ventricles and then a Mushroom looking button is placed under the skin so spinal fluid can be pulled off the brain to help reduce the pressure on the brain. This morning Jonah's nurses reported that during the night Jonah had some problems with his blood saturation levels; as a result the Suregeons do not want to put the Reservoir in today. Also, they say his head has not grown in 4 days, so they are doing another brain ultra-sound today to see what the ventricles look like. When we asked them if Jonah's brain tissue was being compressed, they said that the tests they have don't really relay enough information to know if and how much pressure is on the brain, and how much brain tissue they could see, and if it was compressed. They also said that his head could be growing at a normal rate and his ventricles are just...
