HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT!

Jonah amazed us today at church!  First off, he said he needed to go potty, so after the sacrament ( communion) we went.  He went PEE!!!!  Yeah for Jonah!!!  He is now sensing when he needs to go pee!!!  Crossing our fingers.  The next big thing.  Jonah said he didn't want to walk through the gym to go back into the chapel.  So we walked the long way around the gym in the hall.  He fell down, not unusual.  On my way back he walked back on his feet, squatted, and stood up!!!  I couldn't wait to show mom.  We walked back into the chapel.  He went to Primary with Mommy, and stayed . . . after some crying.  After church I told mom what had happened and asked Jonah to sit, and then stand up.  He did.  Mom let out a scream of Jonah and then quickly covered her mouth!!!  Jonah can now stand up by himself!!!  We will work on getting some videos to put on the blog.

3:30 AM Martial Arts!???

Jonah woke up this morning at 3:30 ready to go to martial arts class (MA class).  He was very disappointed when I told him it wasn't time and that he needed to back to sleep.  It was Daddy to the rescue.  He swooped in and took Jonah to the big bed to snuggle and finish their sleep.  Upon waking at 7 all Jonah could talk about was MA class, he is really loving it!  Imagine Jonah's utter disappointment when we arrived to locked doors.  The sign on the door said that the instructors were at a competition and classes would resume next week.  I took my sad boy to Food Lion (our grocery store) to ride in the blue car (it's a children's car attached to the front of the grocery cart) while we grabbed a few things.  This helped a little bit.  Then on the way out we decided to make the most of the puddles the rainy morning had made.  Jonah thought that was pretty fun!  We got home and the first thing out of his mouth was, "Momma, can we do s...

Sweet!!! It's Friday!

I'm so excited, it's Friday!  Bring on the weekend!  Weather permitting we're going to go to the boardwalk tomorrow to see the international sandcastle building contest.  Dave has the day off tomorrow and we're going to make the most of it.

Just another Thursday

Nothing too exciting today.  Caleb seems to be feeling better this afternoon.  Jonah tells us that he had a great day at school.  Daddy checked out of HM14 (his current command) this morning and checked into HM15 in the afternoon.  He will be at 15 for the next 4 years.  This is a sea duty billet (AKA he will be deploying).  When he deploys he will go to Bahrain for 6 months then home for 6 months.  We are told that most likely Dave will deploy in January 2013, although this is always subject to change.  The Navy is very good at making last minute changes.  Dave's superiors from HM14 have been very generous in their praise when telling the guys at 15 what to expect in Dave.  Being that he's on sea duty Dave will work 5:30AM to 3:30PM Monday through Saturday.  We are grateful that he has Sundays off!

Crazy Morning!

Today ended up being a CRAZY morning!  Jonah saw Dr. Jensen (Endocrinology) for a routine follow-up.  Dr. J was elated with Jonah's progress.  He says that Jonah is growing well and he LOVED Jonah's new ability to walk.  After the visit we were off to get Caleb's 2 month immunizations and Jonah's flu shot.  Jonah was AMAZINGLY BRAVE.  Just a little scream when the needle hit and a few whimpers after!  He said he wanted to show Caleb how to be brave.  Caleb was a real trooper too.  He got 3 pokes and so long as he has a little Tylenol in his system he's pretty good.

Trying to Catch the Smile

Image
I tried, to no avail to capture this little guy's smile.  I did, however, have a great time capturing some silly faces though. Jonah and i had a wonderful bedtime snuggle.  He was very tired from playing hard and fell asleep quickly.

Little Hoots!

Image
Caleb is rockin' his cloth diaper and his adorable owl hat!  Check out those baby blues!  Starting to loose patience with Mommy...  Patience GONE! This little stinker was tired and just wanted to be swaddled and rocked. Jonah's day has been a pretty good one.  We had a nice Family Home Evening lesson and Jonah did great practicing his martial arts tonight!

Show Stopper!

Jonah made quite a splash today at the Primary Program!  The sunbeams (kiddos who turn 4 in 2012) sat on the front row up in the stand.  When it was time to sing Sister Dyson would motion the children to stand and the Sunbeams would stand then move all the way to the front of the pulpit.  As Jonah was walking to the front he loud enough for the entire congregation to hear Jonah says, "I'm gonna sing for you guys now!"  There was a mild chuckle that rippled through the pews.  For good measure twice he stated, "Look at me!"  Then at the end of nearly every song Jonah would say, "Clap for me guys!" and "I did so GREAT!" At the conclusion of the program Jonah had numerous fans approach to tell him how much they loved his part of the program.  Even the Bishop and Stake President sought him out.  I really wish I could have captured it on tape.  It was priceless!  Then to top off the night we made Vanilla Ice Cream and popcorn.  LOVE Sun...

Cleaning Day

Image
Today was the cleaning day for us.  Jonah was a great help.  He was able to pick up all his toys, shoes, and books and put them in the appropriate place, with a little guidance from mommy.  After that He was a great help sweeping and mopping the floors.  Then it was on to Martial Arts, home for lunch and a nap then out to yardsales.  We scored hugely today.   Tanya found a Jogging stroller and a bicycle trailer for a very great deal!!  Jonah and Molly rode behind daddy, while caleb enjoyed being pushed while running with mom.   Tomorrow Jonah is excited to make Popcorn and Icecream.

Food and a Date Night

My favorite Jonah story  of the day... Jonah: "Roy got mad at me." Mom: "Why did Roy get mad at you?" Jonah: "Cause at snack I taked his food!" Mom: "You did what?!" Jonah: "I taked his san-a-wich, and his pepperoni, and his cheese!" Mom: "How Come?" Jonah: "Cause I want a san-a-wich, and pepperoni, and cheese!" Mom: "How bout I pack those things for you for snack on monday?" Jonah: "Yeah!" *Can't believe my kiddo actually tried to steal FOOD!* The primary program is coming up on Sunday so tonight the kids had a practice at the church.  This translates into Mom and Dad's Date night!!!  We were oh so adventurous and went to 7-eleven's redbox and borrowed Hunger Games.  It was a pretty good flick but the books are better.

Adjusting

We are all missing the grandparents but are adjusting back into our routine.  Everyone made it home to Utah safe and sound.  Jonah is working hard in school and has made some new friends.  Caleb is growing so fast and I've noticed today that he is getting more smiley and that has started to coo.  So exciting!

Sigh and Sniffle

Image
Sad day at the Layne house today, both sets of grandparents left today. Although every one is smiles now tears were shed when all was said and done.  Jonah  had some behavior problems today with all the stress and change, but that was kind of expected.  Mommy let him play hookie from school to get in every second with the grandparents he could!!!  We miss you Nana and Papa, Gaga and Gma Raine.  Can't wait to see you again!

Lovin' the company

Jonah is so in love with having both sets of grandparents here.  It will be a very sad day on Wednesday.  Jonah had feeding therapy today and was a total ROCK STAR!  While Jonah, Caleb, and I were at feeding therapy everyone else went sight seeing in Norfolk.

Baby Blessing Birthday Party

Image
Today was a big day for us.  First, We blessed Caleb this morning.  Thank you to all who participated and came in support of us!!  Then we had a great party, a belayed birthday bash for Jonah.  We had a wonderful time with beloved friends and dear families.  Yesterday we had some pictures take of our family, and today Tanya's sister, Brittney, edited them for us.  She does amazing things.  Enjoy.

vanilla icecream

Jonah has this fascination lately with stories from Dave's and my childhood.  One of his favorites is when i tell him how we make home made ice cream. Gaga and Grandma knew of this fascination and decided to bring out their ice cream freezer.  While Jonah was at school today we ran around and retrieved all the ingredients and we made ice cream when he got home!  He was so excited to see it all happen just the way I told him.

2nd Wave of Spoilers!

Image
Jonah is officially in HEAVEN!  He has 4 grandparents in Virginia Beach all at the same time... and of course they all came bearing gifts.  Videos of Jonah and his new microphone from Gaga and Grandma will be posted tomorrow.  Everyone seems to be enjoying their Caleb snuggles. Caleb is enjoying all the attention (until he is sleepy then he's ready to be left alone). Papa and his boys!  Jonah left the area where everyone was socializing to go potty and three times while in the bathroom Jonah yelled, "Hey Grandparents are you still here?"  Then he'd wait for each of them to acknowledge him and reassure him they were still here.  I can only imagine how sad this boy will be next Wednesday when everyone leaves for Utah.

First Wave of "Spoilers"!

Gaga and Grandma arrived safe and sound tonight.  They got to meet Caleb for the first time when they got off the plane.  Caleb seemed intrigued with the new faces.  Jonah was so excited when we put him to bed that his visitors would be here in the morning.  Can't wait for the second wave of "Spoilers" to arrive tomorrow afternoon!

Struggling with Oral Feeds...

Mondays are Hard

Poor Jonah has a rough time with Mondays...  He had a good morning with Ms. Patty and was very helpful in getting himself ready for school.  Then as Ms. Patty left for home the boys and I left for feeding therapy.  Jonah really struggled with drinking his chocolate milk for us so Mommy and Caleb had to wait in the waiting room while Jonah and Ms. Wendy worked on his eating.  Then Jonah only wanted to go home and snuggle with Mom.  To his dismay I took him to school anyway. Jonah was a puddle of tears on the floor in the entryway of the school when his teacher passed by and offered to escort him to class.  It must not have lasted long since his note from the teacher said it was a happy day.

Friends

We had a great Sunday today!  We took the Preston family with us to church!  The girls were so well behaved you'd have thought they'd been attending church all their lives.  After church we ate dinner and in the middle of dinner Miss V asked to excused to go potty.  As she was running to the bathroom Jonah, very matter of factly, yells, "Don't forget to point your wiener down!"  The adults in the room busted up and Mommy quickly let him know that girls don't have those.  Kids say the darnedest things!

Happy 4th Birthday Jonah!

I can hardly believe that 4 years ago today we met our little angel baby Jonah for the first time!  What a scary, but wonderful day that was.  We have learned a lot from Jonah in the last 4 years.  He is an amazing boy with a very kind and thoughtful heart.  Jonah weighs 33.5 pounds, and stands 37 inches tall.  He wears size 3T and 4TJonah loves all things to do with cooking and the kitchen, Bob the Builder and his team of heavy equipment, and anything his Daddy might be involved in.  In the last 4-5 months Jonah's independent walking has improved immensely and he can now take 50 continuous steps with no help from anyone! Today we greeted Jonah in his bed with the Happy Birthday Song and Pirate decoration for his room!  Mom and Dad were boring... we bought him clothes.  He was way more excited to see Auntie Ally's box arrive with 3 new brightly colored pans!  When asked what special activity he'd like to do for his birthday he told us he'd l...

School Pirate Party

Image
Jonah had a fabulous day at school today... they celebrated his birthday!  Mommy got to come help them celebrate at the end of the day.  This is Ms. Bayer, Jonah's teacher.  They just finished singing "Happy Birthday" to him and Jonah yelled "Lets give everyone a big applause!" Mommy brought everyone (8 little boys including Jonah) a Pirate mask and some Pirate Treasure (a chocolate chip cookie that Jonah helped me make last night).  While the boys ate their cookie I read them, "How I Became a Pirate"!  This is one of Jonah's favorite books. The boys were so attentive.  They were Captain Braid Beard's Pirate Crew and they helped me read the book!  Jonah couldn't have been more excited and pleased! When we got home Ms. Maureen gave Jonah his birthday present... The heavy construction trucks, a dump truck, a roller, and a backhoe.  Jonah was on cloud 9!  He kept telling us that now he had part of Bob's Team (Bob the B...

Even Better

Jonah's day today was even better.  He didn't cry at all when getting on the bus and his note from his teachers says that the day went well.  Jonah and I made cookies for Jonah's birthday treat for school.  I get to go to his class tomorrow and bring his treats to celebrate his birthday.  The only downer today is that Jonah came home limping from school.  He struggles to put weight on his left leg.  I was concerned and needed a professional opinion so I called Erin.  She was so kind as to drop everything and come lend a hand.  We decided to give him Ibuprofen and watch him for 24 hours as it seems to be a soft tissue issue.  Jonah asked her to stay and play blocks then she took pity on me and got Jonah in his PJs for bed.  Caleb has been kinda cranky this evening making it hard to get anything accomplished... and boy does my house show it!  Sure wish they made sleep in a bottle, it would make things so much easier!

1st Day of School!

Image
Can you believe how grown up this kiddo is?  We had a wild morning trying to get everything accomplished.  Monday and Wednesday mornings are going to be very busy for Jonah.  His feeding therapy visits have moved to Monday at 11 and Wednesday at 9.  I was sure grateful for Ms. Patty's help, I'd have never made it without her.  Our little rockstar had a LONG night last night.  I think it was mostly anxiety of school starting and having to adjust to a new schedule.   This beautiful smile lasted all the way to when the bus aid picked him up to put him in his seat.  That is the moment that the Dam broke and the poor little guy became an emotional train wreck.  I had to get on the bus and wrestle him into his seat belt as his thrashing was too much for the aid to accomplish it.  The poor little girl who was sitting next to him was completely terrified.  The bus driver (Ms. Lisa) looked at me like I'd just buckled a lit...

GI Doctor

Jonah got to miss his first day of school today to make it to a Dr. Appointment.  ...More to come, falling asleep at the keyboard again!   Jonah's Dr. appointment went great today.  Dr. Devito (the GI doc) was pleased with Jonah's weight gain and feeding.  He had no suggestions on changes so it's more of the same for another 3-4 months.

a whole lot of nothin'!

We didn't do a whole lot today.  Mommy got a hair cut, daddy mowed the lawn.  Jonah is still a little bit under the weather, at least this evening that is what we think.  He needed a ton of mommy time for bed.  Mommy had to rock Jonah to sleep tonight or else he would scream.  The highlight of the day was nap time.  While mommy was out getting a hair cut, Daddy and the boys took a nap successfully!  Yesterday was kind of a big step for Daddy and Caleb.  I guess if you are hungry enough you will eat anything put in your mouth.  Tanya is pumping again after she feeds Caleb to try and build up a stock again in our freezer.

Bottle X2

Daddy is still under the weather so this morning I took Jonah to church.  We missed sacrament meeting because I was feeding Caleb in hopes he would be content to wait for me to get home from church to eat again.  No such luck.  He got hungry while we were gone and it was Daddy to the rescue!  Caleb decided he didn't mind using a bottle so long as it was held by Daddy.  Caleb took a second bottle for Daddy this afternoon when I had to go over to Kristen's house in Norfolk to help for a bit.  So glad I had some milk in the freezer! You may want to look back at yesterday's entry.  I added some pictures and another story.

busy but productive day

Image
(we ran loay chukd re  /                                             //////////////// )... this is tonight's original post.  Apparently I fell asleep at the keyboard. We enjoyed our family day of shopping, cleaning, and getting ready for Sunday. Picts to come.  Our sweet sleeping angel!  This was Jonah's wild hair before his first professional haircut. This afternoon we took Jonah to get a big boy haircut for school.  He was pretty excited.  Jonah was such a big boy for Ms. Rebecca not a single tear was shed.  He talked her ear off the entire time and did a pretty good job of holding still.  This pic was taken just before Rebecca trimmed the top.  I somehow neglected to get a pic of the finished product....
